The single, a cyclical and toxic love story, is depicted by a versatile amalgamation of dancehall, house and rap music. Speaking about the topic Jordan says “love and hate are two necessary factors in a relationship, you have to have the perfect mix of both to make it work” and this idea is reflected in Wish You Knew. RUNOFFBROKE continues, “it’s a toxic relationship that you’re happy to be in” – an unusual plot twist to the common hate brigade on toxic relationships that’s found within many artist’s music.
Wish You Knew continues the rapper’s collaboration with producer Feel.Factory (NINETY7HERTZ), using beats with influence from afrobeat, deephouse and dance hall. These interweave with Jordan’s fresh rhymes and lyrics, complimenting the story of arguments, lust, resolution and repetition we see in the track. Quick and clever lyrics fill the verses, but the slightly more spacey chorus sections gives a more chilled out vibe to Wish You Knew.
